Kunal Shah- Cred- Bangalore
Kunal Shah established CRED, Bangalore in 2018; by 2021, it had onboarded over 5.9 million customers and processed around 20% of all credit card bill payments in India.
Kunal Shah- Founder
Kunal Shah, the co-founder of FreeCharge, has launched his second company, Cred. It allows credit cardholders to pay bills via an app and provides them with incentives in the form of Cred coins and jewels. These virtual coins may be redeemed at a variety of locations, including coffee shops, movie theatres, and eCommerce sites.Kunal Shah, the founder of the fintech startup CRED, is indeed a philosophy major who had dropped out of MBA school. CRED Founder Kunal Shah, one of India's most well-known entrepreneurs, says he doesn't care about degrees when it comes to employment for the fintech unicorn. In fact, he is simply a Class 10 graduate and is one of the senior leaders of the Bengaluru unicorn (startups worth over $1 billion).
Kunal believes in individuals who are typically outstanding, believe in excellence, and care about it, as seen by their actions in a variety of situations. CRED prefers to employ individuals from a variety of backgrounds, and Kunal intends to make a concerted effort in the future to hire more people from subjects such as psychology, anthropology, and sociology, in addition to the traditional STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
"And, in general, we don't believe remarkable work comes from degrees," he says. CRED has grown to include loans, rent payments, and the debut of 'CRED Pay,' which allows users to pay retailers directly through the site.
MBA Dropout
Kunal earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Mumbai's Wilson College in 2000. He began an MBA programme at Mumbai's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in 2003 but dropped out before completing the programme. "I believe there are a variety of reasons why people choose to drop out. For me, I realised that studying on my own was preferable to learning through an organised programme because the curriculums and theories were more focused on getting good grades rather than truly comprehending things. So MBA as a structure didn't work for me," Kunal explains. After raising $215 million in a new fundraising round (Series D) at a valuation of $2.2 billion in April, CRED became the youngest Indian firm to be valued at over $2 billion.
