Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy, an Indian billionaire businessman, was born on August 20, 1946, in Shidlaghatta, Karnataka. He founded Infosys and served as its chairman, chief executive officer (CEO), president, and chief mentor before resigning and accepting the position of chairman emeritus. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Engineering, University of Mysore, and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Murthy worked as a chief systems programmer at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and Patni Computer Systems in Pune before reaching Infosys.
Infosys Establishment
He established Infosys in 1981 and served as the company's CEO and chairman from 2002 to 2011. He stood down from the board of directors in 2011 and became chairman emeritus. Murthy was named executive chairman of the company in June 2013 for a five-year term. He is the father-in-law of Rishi Sunak, the current Chancellor of the Exchequer, and a British MP. Narayana Murthy was born on August 20, 1946, into a middle-class Madhwa Brahmin family in  Shidlaghatta, Chikkaballapura district, Karnataka.
 
Murthy worked as a Project Associate for a faculty member at IIM Ahmedabad before becoming the principal system programmer. He built and implemented a BASIC interpreter for the Electronics Corporation of India while working on India's first time-sharing computer system. Softronics is the name of the company he founded. He joined Patni after the business lost after roughly a year and a half. N.R. Narayana Murthy was transformed from a "muddled socialist" to an "empathetic capitalist" after a traumatic incident aboard a train in Nis, a border town between Serbia and Bulgaria, in 1974. Murthy and his six software professionals launched Infosys in 1981 with a Rs 10,000 start-up capital investment from his wife Sudha Murthy. The business began in a tiny office space. Raghavan's house served as the registered office. Since they couldn't finance the firm didn't have a computer until 1983. They had to wait two years to acquire their first computer, which was a Data General 32-bit MV8000. Sudha Murthy, his wife, is a social worker and novelist who works with the Infosys Foundation on charitable projects. Murthy led Infosys for 21 years, from 1981 to 2002, and was succeeded by Nandan Nilekani, a co-founder.   He defined, created, and executed the International Delivery Model for outsourcing IT services from India through Infosys. GDM is built on collaboration international software development concepts, that have resulted in higher quality software being delivered on time and on a budget to worldwide clients. Mr. Murthy also introduced the globe to the notion of a 24-hour workday. Infosys rose to the top of the innovation rankings under Mr. Murthy's guidance.

The Thomas Jefferson Medal and the James C. Morgan Global Humanitarian Award have been bestowed upon him. Fortune magazine has named Murthy one of the top 12 entrepreneurs of all time. Murthy has received the Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri awards for his achievements.
