Lalbagh Botanical Garden Bangalore
Lalbagh is one of India's oldest botanical gardens and a major tourist destination in South India as well. The Lalbagh Botanical Garden is situated in South Bengaluru and is not only one of India's largest botanical gardens, but also the first of its kind, with planned paths, glasshouses, and ornamental flowers growing all over the land.
The garden itself is spread over an area of 240 acres and the renowned ruler Hyder Ali commissioned its creation. Finally, it was completed by his son, Tipu Sultan, who designed the gardens with the beautiful gardens of Sira in Karnataka's Tumkur District in mind.
Lalbagh is home to exotic flowers brought from countries such as France, Persia, Arabia, Afghanistan, etc, by Sultan. Therefore, flowers that had never been seen in India before first were seen in this historical garden. Trees which were brought from all over the world by Tipu Sultan can still be seen growing here. Visitors will also catch sight of certain uncommon birds other than the exotic trees, such as the Myna, pond heron, purple moorhen, parakeets, Brahminy kites, common egret, and much more. It has another striking draw, apart from the spectacular flora and fauna of the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, which is the Lalbagh Rock. This rock said to be over 3000 years old, is one of the world's oldest rocks and can be found in the middle of the garden.
The best time to visit the Lalbagh Botanical Garden is during winter, which lasts from November to March in Bangalore, Although the gardens remain open during the year, in summer it can get pretty stuffy and humid. Around January and August, is the time when the flower display takes place in the Glass House, so you can also schedule your trip.
